Expeditions Rules Rewrite

One of the more surprising discoveries I've learned from working on rulebooks, is how important the order of information is. A great example is the Scythe Expeditions rulebook. I had to read the rulebook a few times to understand how to play, but quickly learned upon attempting to teach the game, that my understanding was not at a level where I could easily explain the game to anyone else, especially when using the rules as an aid in explanation.

As an experiment, I tried to rewrite the rules, to edit them down to a more user friendly core. I very quickly realized as I read that the words and phrases weren't in need of further editing, but that the order of those phrases made it difficult to parse and even more difficult to teach. So, I took everything from the rulebook and reordered it to see if I could more effectively use it to teach the game to my friends.

The end result was a rulebook that not only helped me in explaining the game in a timely and useful manner (avoiding the dreaded blank stares of people learning a new game), but also helped me to better understand the gameplay.
